What is the monumental cemetery, the shrine of Redipuglia? Just only 25 kilometres from my home......:

"....The military memorial Redipuglia is a monumental military cemetery located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, built during the fascist era [1] and dedicated to the memory of more than 100,000 Italian soldiers died during the First World War. It is located within the municipal area of Fogliano Redipuglia in the province of Gorizia (Friuli-Venezia Giulia). The huge size and the wide area involved in memory of the park make it the largest military memorial in Italy and one of the largest in the world. Every 4 November in the presence of the President of the Senate, acting for the President of the Republic engaged in contemporary celebrations similar to the Altar of the Fatherland, the shrine serves as a place of commemoration for all 689,000 soldiers died during the First World War. The monument is the centerpiece of a memorial park of over 100 hectares, which includes parts of the Carso theater during the Great War of harsh battles. The grand staircase of stone that forms the shrine Redipuglia is positioned directly in front of the hill of St. Elias, the former headquarters of the cemetery of war whose remains were moved to the current monumental shrine. The whole area was converted to a park of "memory" or "remembrance": tunnels, trenches, craters, unexploded ammunition and machine gun nests were stored on the site in memory of the war
The memorial monument was designed by a working group chaired by the architect Giovanni Greppi and the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni. Work began in 1935 with a massive use of men and means that after 3 years of uninterrupted work allowed the inauguration of the monument September 18, 1938 in the presence of Mussolini and more than 50,000 veterans of the Great War. [2] The monument from birth until 1998, was administered by the Ministry of Defense, which has been responsible for maintaining and in 1999 came under the administration of the Province of Gorizia.
